Houston Business Journal Nov.14-20, 2003

Houston business leaders share their expertise in many philanthropic capacities – both while they are employed after retirement.

Among strong supporters of The Center, an organization serving those with mental retardation and those needing similar services, are B. Z. Lee, a former managing partner of BDO Siedman, and his wife Alicia, who have worked as volunteers for over 15 years.

On of the Lees’ four children is a resident at The Center’s Willow River Farms, a community located 50 miles west Houston for people with developmental disabilities.

Five years ago, Alicia Lee initiated a full-time baking project that now involves many volunteers, with all proceeds benefiting The Center. Sales of gingersnaps, fruitcakes and the newly added cheese snaps have gone from $500 the first year to over $200,000 this year and now total $608,000.
